The Biju Patnaik University of Technology ( BPUT ), Orissa, with its head-quarters in Rourkela came into being in November 2002 through an act of the Government. The main objective of instituting the University was to ensure a high quality of students coming out of the technical colleges through a common curriculum and uniform evaluation. Today, the University has 137 colleges, both constituent and affiliated, with around 100,000 students. The disciplines include engineering and architecture, business management, computer studies and pharmacy. Several of these offer both undergraduate and post graduate studies.

• Biju Patnaik University of Technology offers 950+ courses across 12 streams.

• BPUT has a total of 137 constituent and affiliated colleges, with around 1 Lakh students.The varsity has signed a MoU with UIICL & OICL to provide students with insurance in case of accidents and health issues.

• The medium of instruction for the courses offered at BPUT is English only. The varsity has MOOCs and offers other learning resources through edX, SWAYAM, Swayam Prabha, Coursera, and NPTEL. 

• Biju Patnaik University has provisions for direct admission of NRI and FN students for a limited number. The admission procedure for the same is conveyed on a timely basis.

• The curriculum of BPUT follows a semester system which is divided into two semesters namely Autumn Semester or odd semester and Spring Semester (even semester). 

• BPUT Odisha has a dedicated portal for releasing BPUT exam notice, results, academic calendar, timetables, and notifications. Students can also apply for Degree Certificate, Mark Sheets, and College Leaving certificates on this online portal.

Admission Process

The selection of the candidates will depend on the marks scored by them in qualifying examination. The university will allot colleges according to the merit of the candidates. Candidates must then visit the allotted institute and fulfill the admission procedure.

Candidates must have secured 50% aggregate marks in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and Biology for  B Pharm

Ranking

Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) is ranked at the 190th position by NIRF 2021 rankings in the Engineering category list, The rank has now improved from previous year which was the rank band 201-250.

Placements

Biju Patnaik University of Technology has a dedicated training and placement cell that facilitates job opportunities for students. The number of recruiters of BPUT are not that high during placements. The highlights for BPUT Placements for the previous years are as follows:

• The highest CTC offered was INR 6 LPA.
• The average CTC offered was INR 3 LPA
• The top companies of the varsity are ITC, Asian Paints, Accenture, Maruti Suzuki, etc. 
• The Electrical Engineering department has the highest placement percentage of 60%.

Campus

The campus of Biju Patnaik University of Technology is located at Chhend Colony, Rourkela in Odisha with an area of 125 acres. It is about 7 km from Rourkela railway station, Odisha.
